MOTOR COLLISION.

MANGAWEKA MAN KILLED. DRIVER AND WIFE HURT. Per Press Association. WANGANUI. June 6. When a three-seater motor ca.r skidds<i on frozen snow and went over a bank near Taikape thi.s afternoon, Mr John Persson, contractor, Maugaweka, was.killed. , , r ' >■ The car was driven by Mr Persson s brother, Mr J. A. Persson, of Palmerston North, a.nd the latter s wife also was a _ passenger, both escaping severe injury. Mr John Persson was pinned under the car and w.as dead when extricated. He was a married man with four, children.

VERDICT OF DROWNING. Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, June 7. At the inquest into the death of Mr John Persson, this morning. the Coroner’s verdict was that deatli was due to drowning. LATE MR JOHN PERSSON. MEMBER OF WELL-KNOWN LOCAL FAMILY. The late Mr John Persson. was a member of a family well-known in Palmerston. North and the surrounding districts. He was the third eldest son of the late Mr Anders Persson, of Rongotea, and Mrs P. Persson, of Victoria Avenue. The late Mr Persson was born in Rongotea and was brought up in this district. lie served in the War and on his return married, and had resided then in the MankawekaOhingaiti district, fallowing larniin'g and contracting pursuits. Mr Persson was of a reserved disposition, but wns well-kno.vn as a very willing worker.

Brothers of the late gentleman are Messrs J. A. Persson (Alain Street), N. Persson (Victoria Avenue), G. Persson (Lower Mutt), W. Persson (Wellington). A. Persson (Kuahine Street). I. Persson (Church Street); and sisters are Mesdames Weston J. Smith (Ruahine Street), D. Brougham (Shamrock Street), W. Marshall t^ e J“ son), W. Gloyn (Rongotea), K. Bell (Victoria Avenue), 11. V. Masters (Masterton, formerly of Palmerston North) and Miss H. Persson (Victoria Avenue). Three other brothers passed away some years ago Messrs William, Oscar (in China) and Martin (in the War).

INJURY TO PASSENGER. Severe damage was done to two ears, which were involved in a collision' at the intersection of Albert and Ferguson Streets shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday. The drivers of the vehicles were Air L. E. Burlace, ot llannevirke, and Mr E. I'. C. Hinds, of Palmerston North. Mr Albert Burlace, a passenger in the former vehicle, had to receive medical attention for a blow on the head which rendered him temporarily unconscious.
