Mr George Black, New Zealand superintendent of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., died suddenly yesterday in Wellington. He was appointed to the position in June, 1936, being previously manager of the Dunedin office. Major S. Bridge, officer in charge of the Salvation Army in the Invercargill district, has been promoted to the position of divisional commander at Dunedin. Major Bridge was formerly stationed at Palmerston North for two years, leaving this centre about five years ago. A resident of Hamilton who has had a long connection with the dairying industry in New Zealand, Mr James Belcher, celebratea his ‘Jlst birthuay last week. Air Belcher retired three years ago and only last week left his home au Garden Place, Hamilton, to live at Alatangi. Lieutenant-Colonel A. J. Alanson, MX'., of Hastings, who has been appointed Sergeant-at-Arms in the House ot Representatives, Wellington, serveu in the Great War lrom 19io until alter the Armistice. In the course of the speeches it was mentioned that the departing guest was a member of a family which had given yeoman service to‘ the Kia Toa Club and to football in general lor some years and the guest was thanked lor his services to the dub in the time through which lie had been associated with it.
