POHANGINA VALLEY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, June 5. Tho June meeting of the Fohungina Women’s Institute was held cn Wednesday, Mrs J. T. Moar presiding over a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdanie s N. H. Moar, G. Thomson and T. Sinclair. Mrs Lampcn Smith, of Singapore, and Misses C. and A. Smith, of Waharoa, were welcomed as visitors. The resignation of Mrs L. Tows front the position of treasurer owing to ill-healtli was accepted with regret, Miss D. Watson being elected to fill tho office. A letter was received from tho Ashhurst Institute inviting members to attend a cooking demonsiiation. A number signified their intention of being present. The afternoon was a sewing and literary one and several interesting readings were given by members. The thought for the day was: “Do not hurry; do not flurry; nothing good is got by worry.” A competition for the best bloom resulted in Miss J. Howell gaining first place Miss E. Roberts second, and Mrs Orgias third. Miss J. Sinclair’s special prize tor the best sandwich mat was awarded to Mrs Stevens, Miss D. Watson being second and Mrs J. Stuart third. The judges wore Messrs R. Culling and C. Gavin, who were accorded a vote of thanks. J lie hostesses were Mrs J. r i. Moar, Miss M. Maddison, and Miss A. llarland.
