BOXING AND WRESTLING

On Wednesday night at tiic Opera Houso the first of the popular shifting mixed boxing and wrestling tourneys will be held under the joint management of the Manawatu Boxing Association and the Palmerston North Wrestling Association. There will bo five events under each code, and care is being exercised by those officials responsible for the matching to see that the boys brought together in the ring are evenly matched, as, if this tournament is as well patronised as similar fixtures were in 1936, it is the intention of the joint coutuuiKX'S io lia' e a scries of them during the season. Feilding is supplying at least throe of the wrestlers—W. Croquette, 11.7, to be pitted against J. Clark; P. McKenzie, 13.0. versus B. Murrell, 13.0; and Edhouse, for whom an opponent has yet to be selected. The star bout in the wrestling section will bo between I ’. Cowan, 11.10, of \t anganui, and T. Waldron, 11.9. of Rata. Both adopt similar tactics in the ring, and each has had many bouts before the public, but never yet have occupied opposite corners The boxing events arc always popular. Coughlan v. Porter and O’Neill v. Collins will he well worth seeing, while some outside amateurs arc being imported to contest local talent in the other three bouts.
