TROOPING THE COLOUR.
BALLOT FOR POSITIONS. LONDON, June 6. There were so many New Zealand and Australian applications for positions at the Trooping of the Colour that a ballot was necessary. There were thousands of disappointments, but Dominion visitors will fare better at the Coronation ltoyal garden party at the Palace on June 22. New Zealand and Australia have been granted 1500 invitations, which is a largo increase on previous years. VISITORS TO THE ABBEY. LONDON, June 5. Westminster Abbey in its Coronation setting was closed on Saturday to visitors, when 15,199 paid sixpence to see the splendours. The attendance has totalled 245,794 since the Abbey was opened on May 15. CORONATION - CROWDS. SECOND LARGEST ON RECORD. “The crowd that saw the ••'oronation procession was not the world’s greatest, but it came a good second,” said Sir Philip Game, Metropolitan Police Commissioner on May 13. ' “Estimates are incomplete, added Sir Philip, “but probably there were more than 2,000,000 people around the procession and Abbey areas. However, the crowds at the funeral of George V were estimated at 3.000,000. “Except for a hitch in getting the guests away from the Abbey, which was largely due to the rain, the airangements welit excellently.”
