OWNERS AND TRAINERS.

WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL BRANCH. DISCUSSION ON HURDLES. The Wellington provincial branch of tho Owners’, Trainers’, and Breeders’ Association, at a meeting held in Palmerston North last evening, passed a resolution, to be forwarded to the New Zealand Racing Conference, strongly recommending' that hurdles be made uniform throughout New Ztaland with a height of 3ft. 6in. after allowing for a six-inch lean; that steps be taken to enforce the rule regarding the stability of fences; and urging that the optional use of blinkers for horses be supported. It was considered that a six-inch loan on the hurdles was more reasonable for horses, and gave them greater confidence, besides reducing the risk of injury to riders. Another matter discussed was the failure in some instances to pay stud service fees. A resolution was passed advocating that until a clearance is given by the stud owner that all service fees have been paid, the Racing Conference should refuse to register tho progeny. It was considered that some such steps were necessary for the protection of stud breeders, who at present had no redress. Windsor Lad. There is still a possibility of the Little England gelding Windsor Lad being sufficiently recovered to take his place in the Winter Steeplechase on the third and concluding day of tho Great Northern meeting. While the bruising and cuts ho received when he bolted and ran foul of a gale at Eureka last neck wore extensive, they are responding well to treatment. In any case it is hoped ho will bo ablo to contest ’chasing events at tho Trenthnm fixture next month. Going to Singapore. Owned by a Dunedin partnership, a rising tliree-year-old chestnut gelding by Balboa —Lin wood has been sold to the East, and is being shipped to Singapore this week. Riders at Ellerslie. Additional riding engagements for the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting include: —R. Horne, Royal Appellant, Ivilonsoa; J. Day, Killadar, Royal Nation, Spear-court, London; J. Winder, Pirate King, Prince Acre; A. Gilmer, Lucidus, Keith Lu, Prince of Orange, Englishman, Don Erma (steeples); J. McLaughlin, Gay Cavalier, Royal Limond, Allegretto (Great Northern Steeples). Former Awapuni Trainer. Tho veteran New Plymouth trainer, Mr A. J. Shearsby, whoso death occurred on Saturday last, was quartered at Awapuni some 27 years ago, being well-known at this centre, where his- training establishment was lal'er laken over by Mr G. Price, the successful Sydney mentor.
