COMING-OF-AGE.
A very happy gathering of relatives p.nd friends of Air Russell Strode Penny, of Waitarere, Levin, was held in the Eoxton Beach Hall to celebrate his twenty-first birthday. Air and Airs William Strode Penny received the guests and a most enpoyable evening was spent with music, competitions and dancing. Alessrs A. D. Barkwith and Keith Penny proving capable Al.C.’s. There were no fewer than 85 guests present, several coming from Sail don. Fei(ding and Palmerston North. Supper was served, Air Russell Penny being called- upon to light and extinguish the 21 candles on the large birthday cake and to receive the handsome golden key, on which the names of the guests were inscribed. His grandfather, Veil. Archdeacon Russell, of Oaniarii, proposed the toast of the guest of the evening in a ha.ppv speech, and after it had been drunk with mus’eal honours. Air Penny responded. He thanked his parents for ar-anging the paHy and exr>res«ed appreciation for all who bed attended arid for thoir many gifts. Air Barkwith p-onos-ed tb° toast of tile parents, to which Air W’l'iam Penny suitable resnomPd. The toast of “Absent Friends” was nronosed by Afr L. T.nnmda.*, an d the loyal toast by Air Barkwith.
