ITS GREAT TRADITIONS.

OLD BOYS’ DINNER. There was an attendance of about thirty at the annual dinner held in Palmerston North, last evening, ol the Manawatu-West Coast branch of the Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association. Mr A. Anderson, the president, was in the chair. Visitors from Christchurch were Messrs IC J. Richards (headmaster of the college), A. E. Flower (a master and an old boy), C. S. Thomas (president of the Christchurch branch), S.' Godfrey (secretary) and Mr D. S. Murchison (a member of the committee) . After the loyal toast had been honoured, the following toasts were submitted:—“The College” (Mr J. HKissling—Mr R. J. Richards) ; “Old Boys’ Delegation” (Mr J. O’B. Beckett —Mr C. S. Thomas) ; “Masters, Past and Present” (Mr D. S. Murchison — Messrs A. Flower and J. G. Denniston). During the course of his reply to the toast of the college, Mr Richards outlined the link between the Old Boys’ Association and the present activities at the college, stating that its high traditions had been maintained. He made particular reference to the association with the college of Mr who is retiring at the end of this year, first as pupil and then as a master for half a century, and expressed .the hope that all sons of old boys would become pupils at the school. Mr Thomas emphasised the remarkable status held by former pupils, and said it had been a factor assisting old boys to obtain employment in difficult times. He added that the Old. Bovs Association sought to assist the school and its pupils in every possible way. Mr Murchison spoke of the long service given the school by Messrs Flower and Jenkins as masters. Responding, Mr Flower returned thanks for the sentiments expressed, commenting that the standard of the school was never higher than under the present headmastersliip. He added that the school list, a valuable compilation which should be in every old boy’s borne, was an asset of which all could be justly proud. Upon the completion of the toast list, the annual general meeting of tlie local branch was held. The report and balance-sheet were adopted with congratulations to the president, lion, secretary (Mr H. T. Harman) and lion, treasurer (Mr J. O’B. Beckett). Officers far the ensuing year were elected as follow: —President, Mr C. G. Moore; lion, secretary, Mr Harman ; lion, treasurer Mr Beckett; committee, Messrs H. Weston (New Plymouth), H. E. B. Newton (Wanganui), D. K. Guy (Levin), B. P. Hopkins (Dannevrrke). H. E. Kissling, A. H. Guy, and T. G. C. Birch (Palmerston North). The function concluded with the college song and tlie National Anthem.
