Tlie New Zealanders had a satisfactory day oil a good wicket, their score totalling 334. They maintained a scoring pace of more than a run a minute all day. Kerr and Tindill, in an attractive partnership, gave their side a useful start betore the former played, one well off the wicket into the stumps. Wallace and Donnelly added 96 in 80 minutes. AVatlace was not so free as usual, but he played all his strokes cleanly in a sound half-century. Donnelly was confident and aggressive, driving, cutting and pulling with fine freedom and hitting a dozen fours. He played an attractive innings lasting just under two hours before being brilliantly caught one-handed in the slips. Weir celebrated his birthday with his best innings of the tour. He batted with methodical deliberation but held tile innings together after iunch, seeing four men come and go and being eighth out. The last six wickets fell for 130 before the keen bowling and fielding, a feature of which was the capital wicketkeeping of James, the former New Zealander, who allowed only one bye and took two catches. Northants batted for 40 minutes, shaping very restrainedly before the steady bowling of Roberts and Dunning. The Northants team is as follows: W. G.
