CAR WITHOUT CERTIFICATE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. June 2. In the first prosecution brought in Auckland for failure to have a certificate of fitness for a motor vehicle, Richard Thomas Carroll was fined £1 for having no certificate, 10s for driving without a license, and £2 for giving a false name and address. The police said that the defendant, when questioned at about 10 p.ni. on April 24, gave his name as Robinson. When seen later the same night he was found to have a driver’s license for 1933-34 in the name of Carroll. Asked by the Magistrate why he did not have a certificate for his car, defendant said it was an old car which lie had bought for £4 and he did not enquire whether there was a certificate for it. “now much have 1 got to pay;” asked defendant when fined. “You 'are to pay altogether £5, which is more than the price of the ear,” replied the Magistrate.
Excavations by Dr. Wilson, who is digging'at High Down Hill, Worthing, for the Worthing Archaeological Sohave revealed a circular hath W'Vrid heating chamber, an iron ladle, d bronze spoon and some Roman pots•.. tcry shards.

The Carl Rosa Opera Company left , London in April for a Coronation tour of South Africa. This is the first oversea visit which the company has under- ' taken in its history of close on 70 ■ years.
