OROUA DOWNS.

(From Our‘Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Juno 1. The Oroua Downs Football Club and Basketball Club held a combined euchre and dance in the hall recently and were well rewarded financially for the effort. The winners of the cards were as follow; —Ladies, Mrs V. Bird 1: consolation, Miss I. Thomson. Men’s, Messrs S. Williams and W. Spicer equal, Mr W. Spicer winning tho cut off; consolation, Messrs J. Dench and A. Thomson equal, Mr Dench w’nning the cut. A competition was won by Mr. S. Williams. Messrs F. Dalgity and K. Cotton otlieiatcd as M.C.’s. Recently tlm residents of Oroua Downs and nearby districts gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs 11. Gardner, who are leaving Ilimatangi lo take up farming in the" Bay of Plenty distret. The time was spent in dancing. Mr .1. 0. Cameron made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Gardner on behalf of llio local residents, tho gift being a canteen of cutlery. Mr Cameron also made a presentation on behalf of the Sports Club, of which Mr Gardner had been an active member for many years, Mr* Gardner also being a valuable helper. Mr Cameron presented Mr and Mrs Gardner with n cake stand, and on behalf of the Football Club, for which Mr Gardner had hold positions as player, coach, and delegate to tho Sub-Union, a crystal salad bowl. Mr Cameron also presented Mr F. Dalgity, who is accompanying Mr and Mrs Gardner, with a fountain pen from members of the Football Club and a suitcase from the Sports Club. Mr 11. Proctor carried out the duties of M.C.
