OBITUARY.

LIEUT.-COLONEL J. H. BOSCAWEN. The death has occurred at Penzance, Cornwall, of Lieutenant-General John Hugh Boscawen, states an Auckland Press Association telegraph. He was an honorary aide-de-camp to Lord Onslow and subsequent Goveimor-General of New Zealand up to the time of Lord Liverpool. He was aged 85 years. MR W. DINWIDDLE. The death of Mr William Dinwiddie, for many years editor of the Hawke’s Bay Heraid, is reported in a Press Association telegram from Napier. Before taking up literary work, Mr Dinwiddle was a barrister and solicitor. He had been chairman of the secondary education board for many years. He was 74 years of age.** MR L. T. SYMES. The death occurred yesterday morning' of Mr Louis Thorley Symes, a -wellknown former bank manager and stockbroker of Auckland, states an Auckland Press Association telegram. He was 77 years of age. Mr Symes was born at Nelson in 1860 and joined the Bank of Australasia at Waverley in 1877. He was appointed manager at Gore in 1883, and in 1892 opened a branch at Gisborne. He tv as manager of the Auckland branch from 1912 to 1920, w'hen he retired from the service of the hank. Mr Symes was for a number of years a member of the Auckland Stock Exchange. He was a vice-president of the Northern Club for several years and was connected with the Melanesian Mission. He leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter.
