ACTION FOR LIBEL.
SEQUEL TO RASPUTIN FILM. LONDON, May 31. The Daily Herald states that Prince Alexis Pavlovich Chegodieff and Princess Elena Chegodieff are suing MetroGold wyn-Ma.ver Pictures, Ltd., ior alleged libel in connection with the’ film “Rasputin and the Empress, ’ reealliim Princess Yonssoupoff’s action m 1934 against the Daily Mail. In 1934 Princess Hina Alexandrova, otherwise known as Princess Youssounoff a cousin of the late Tsar, brought a suit against Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer makers of the film “Rasputin and the Fmnress ” and won a verdict of £25,000 damages. The basis of the action was the identity of Princess Youssoupoff with Natasha, a character nv the fim who was represented as having been seduced by the monk Rasputin. Princess Ilina comofained when the film reached England, and the production was cut in the effort to meet her objection In addition to damages, Mr Justice Avory granted the princess an injunction against defendants restrainin'’/ them from distributing the him. The costs of both sides were estimated at £15,000.
