HEADMASTER RETIRING.

MR F. C. CAMPBELL. LONG SERVICE TO EDUCATION. After 41 years’ service in the teaching profession, Mr F. C. Campbell, headmaster of the Russell Street School, Palmerston North, intimated to the School Committee, last evening, that he intended to retire and was seeking to be relieved at tile end of the present term. Mr Campbell has been the only permanent headmaster at Russel Street, having taken up the position when the school was opened in 1929, and a noteworthy feature of his total service is that he has always beeu under the Wanganui Education Board, and for over a quarter ot a century has been teaching in the Palmerston North district.

Air Campbell joined tile service as a cadet at the Warrengate School, near Fordell, and then served as a pupil teacher at Upper Tutaenui and Ashhurst. His next schools were Wanganui Boys’ School, Long Acre Valley, Oraugiponga and Rangiwahia, and he then commenced his service in Palmerston North. Following a period at the Tiakitahuna School, he became first assistant at the West End School. He later was first assistant at Terrace End, from which school he went to his present position at Russell Street. Air Campbell will continue to live in Pfdmerston North. When the School Committee received the intimation, last evening, the chairman (Air J. A. Grant) said lie iclt sure that the committees, both past and present, would regret to hear of the decision, and he expressed the rogret of the present members.
