SERIOUS INJURIES
MAN FOUND IN STREET. ANOTHER ARRESTED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 1. Found in Customs Street at midnight with injuries to the head and ankle, Harold Robinson, aged 37, a cook, is lying in the Auckland Hospital in a somewhat serious condition. Detective Coddington arrested Walter John Bernard McElwaili, aged 34, a labourer, on a charge of assaulting Robinson so as to cause actual bodily harm. McEhvain appeared before Mr W. Jt. McKean in the Police Court, Mr Hall Skelton, appearing for- defendant, asked for bail, saying he understood that McEhvain bad a good defence. Replying to the Magistrate, the police said tliat the injured man was picked up'in the street, having seemingly been assaulted in a certain building and dragged into the street. “It w.ss a drunken brawl,” said Mr Hall Skelton. The defendant was remanded till June 7, bail being fixed at £l5O.
