BAND CONTEST.
MEETING OF CITIZENS
A meeting of citizens interested in the New Zealand brass bands contest to be held in Palmerston North in February, 1938, was held in the City Council ‘Chambers, last evening, . the Mayor (Mr A. E. Marisfor-i) presiding over a fair auendance.
It was decided to set up ail o-ecncivo eommitce of 20—five from tlic Cmmson Band, five fiom the City Band, five from the 50,(100 Club and five others to be co-npted. • ■ Applications are to bo called for the position of secretary, and a further meeting is to be held next week.. Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., was elected patron of the committee and Mr Mansford president, the appointment of ,other officials being held over Mr W. H. Brown suggested that the A. and P. Associatibn should be urged to have the main stand at the Showgrounds re-roofed prior to. the contest. It would make all the difference to public patronage, lie added, and with the Pipe Band contest in Palmerston North also next year, the association would find the undertaking of the work well -worth while. • The chairman said that lie felt sure the association would be taking the necessary steps before then, and, fuVthermorc, he was confident that the association would accord the contest every possible assistance.
