MONTHLY MEETINGS. TERRACE END SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the Terrace End School Committee was held last evening, Mr. W. 13. Tennent presiding. Also present were Messrs E. G. Bennett, H. D. Milne, H. L. Cunninghams, C. R. Luke, J. K- Paton, It. C. Donald, and H. Blackwood (secretary). There was an apology lor absence from Mr J. Davidson. It was decided that trees be planted at a suitable date to commemorate the Coronation, and that Mr T. F. Fairbrother (a former headmaster) and Mr A. W. Thompson (the present headmaster) be invited .to plant the trees. Mr Thompson reported that the first term had closed’ with an average attendance of 557 out of an average roll of 596. The second term had opened with a good attendance, the roll at the end oi the first week- being 607. Twenty-nine pupils had been admitted in the first week and fifteen withdrawn. The Hospital class average for the first term had been 9.7 out of an average roll of 11.1; the present roll number was 12. The uental clinic fees had been coming in freely and the roll should now be closed. There seemed to be a mistaken belief among some parents that the filling of permanent teeth did not come within the scope of the school dental service, and that when children had their permanent teeth they were not eligible for further treatment. “The position is that a child is eligible for dental treatment when in the primer classes and, after once receiving treatment, is taken every six months until he or she lias passed out of Standard 4. it is only certain of the permanent teeth that cannot be attended to by the dental nurse and when these teeth require attention it is customary to notify the parent to take: the child to a dentist lor treatment. Other permanent teeth can be, and are, treated at the clinic,” Mr Thompson added*. Twenty-five medium dual desks had been received to replace those in Mr Schwarz’s room, also a supply of hyloplate for the infant department, the headmaster added. Thanks were again due to M r Trigg, of Shamrock Street, for a supply of seedlings for the school garden. Mr Thompson sought a direction in connection with the Winter Show holiday. In view of the amount of time that had already been lost in the year, he Suggested that only one half-day (Friday) be granted. It was decided to grant the Friday half-day. ' - Mr Baton reported that the capitation grant had just been received and there was a credit balance of £4l. Accounts amounting to £lB Os 5d were passed for payment. . Mr Donald reported on the visit ot inspection paid by Mr Cunninghame and himsfelf; they had been most impressed by the healthy appearance of the Children. The grounds were generally in good order. Messrs Davidson and Luke were appointed the visiting committee for the ensuing month. Messrs Tennent, Cunninghame and Donald were appointed delegates to the School’ Committees’ Association.
