PREPARING FOR ECLIPSE.
REPORT FROM CANTON ISLAND. OBSER VATIONS BEING MADE. Received June 2, 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, June 2. A radio message from the New Zealand solar eclipse expedition states: — Last night the Now Zealanders entertained the Americans. The speakers were the leader of the expedition (Mr C. B. Micliie) and Messrs Mitchell and Helhveg, who referred to the' cordial relations between the United States 'and New Zealand and to the meeting of old friends. Reference was made to Dr. John Rule and the late Mr Walter Cade, who were to have accompanied the New Zealand party. The coelostat was assembled on its base and the eoronogrnpli is in position and the framework cover erected. Messrs Geddes and Thomsen are continuing their observations of the zodiacal light bands with satisfactory results. The Americans continue focussing their instruments and checking each day two chronometers and 18 watches from time signals received by radio, in preparation for the eclipse day.
