STUD SHEEP SALE.

MEETING OP BREEDERS. MANAWATU AND WEST COAST. The ninth annual meeting of Manawatu and AVest Coast stud sheep breeders was held in Feilding on Friday last, when there were present Mr E. E. Short (chairman) anu Messrs A. L. AVheeler, D. AV. AVurburton, J. A. Mitchell, H. B. Johnston, H. \ r oss, N. P. Nielsen, G. E. Allen, AV. C. Small, J. E. Hewitt r.nd-AV. D. R. Baker. Tho following report was submitted to the meeting and approved: The ninth annual sale was in every way a decided success, a total of 214 stud rams being offered for sale, and a very large percentage being disposed of at prices as high as 250 and 270 guineas in Romneys, and 100 guineas in the Southdown section. Over all entries sold through the ring, Soutlidowns averaged 54J guineas, and Romneys 73 guineas. The fixture was well attended by buyers from all parts of New Zealand. In order to help speed up the selling, the executive committee decided for the last sale to increase the minimum bid from 10 to 15 guineas, and for bidding to be advanced m sums of one guinea instead of halfguinea; also, the time limit of 2 minutes was reduced to T* minutes. The foregoing alterations appeared to work quite satisfactorily and did not deter sales. Another innovation w.ns the double ballot for vendors with more than five rams entered for the sale. Following negotiations made with the AA r airarapa sale committee, tho executive lias now arranged for alternate first sales between tlie Wairarupa and the Manawatu sale committees. Last year the AVairarapa sale was held on January 12 and the Manawatu sale the following day. This arrangement will lie reversed at the 1938 sale. It is with pleasure we record the friendly relations existing between the Auctioneers’ Association and this committee, and we gratefully acknowledge the cooperation and assistance given throughout the year. AVe also appreciate the facilities placed at our disposal by the Feilding A. and P. Association during the holding of oui annual sales. It is very satisfactory to note that tho annual sale is now in a position to carry itself financially, and to show a small profit. It will be remembered that for several years wo had to work on our reserve balance to meet -expenses. The following executive committee was sot up for the ensuing year: Messrs E. E. Short (chairman), A C. Vile T. E. Craine, H. J. Fagan, AV. H. Henson, H. B. Johnston, J. A. Mitchell, AV. C. Small, H. Voss, D. H. AA r arburton, A. L. AVheeler. Several matters pertaining to the holding of the next annual sale arc receiving attention by the executive committee.
