Mrs J- H. Perrett and Miss D. Perrett, of “Camdown,” Sanson, and Mr and Mrs Selby D’Ath, of Kimbolton, motored to Matainata to-day for the wedding of Mrs Perrctt’s granddaughter. Resignations from Miss G. Allen, who has left for England, and Miss M. Broadley, who has taken up ,her residence at Napier, were with regret by the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild, yesterday. Miss Gwen Gibbs returned to Palmerston North yesterday after having visited Christchurch for tire past fortnight to act as judge in the dancing sections at the competitions in that centre. She has also been appointed organiser for the Manawatu for the Royal Academy of Dancing, for the forthcoming examinations.

Congratulations were extended to Mrs M. Aitchison, on being awarded a Coronation medal, by the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild, yesterday. The president (Mrs A. E. Mansford) said that the honour was well deserved by Mrs Aitchison, who. in returning thanks, paid a tribute to the ladies, associated with her for their co-operation.

At a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association, last evening, it was decided to cable the All-England Women’s Hockey Association inviting an international women’s hockey team to tour New Zealand in 1935. The death lias occurred of one of the best-known residents of Dannevirke, Mrs J. E. Riddell, widow of Or Riddell, wdio for many years practised in the coast district. Mrs Ridded, who had been ill for about two years, was horn in Leeds, Yorkshire, in 1857, and came to New Zealand with her husband in 1888, landing at Napier. They settled at Herbertvihe and later at li Tree Point, subsequently retiring in Dannevirke. The ceeeased lady is survived by tivvo sons, Messrs C. B. Riddell (Dannevirke) and H. D. Biddell (Nga.paeruru), and a daughter, Mrs M. \\ ■ Hartgill. At the City Band’s weekly dance Mr Kerr and Mr Paul, who played the extras, were greeted with numerous demands for encores. Hot soapy water in a basin was necessary, he said, and a small brush to dab at the back of the stones. To remove the soapy water, he recommended pouring water from a kettle, still holding the ring over the basin in case the claws holding the stones were at fault. Miss Mary Rees, of the World-wide Evangelisation Crusade, who has worked in Central Africa for over seven years as a. missionary, is the guest of Mr and Mrs T. C. Bycrott, of Russell Street, having come to Palmerston North from Napier. She leaves on Wednesday morning for Wellington. For the past three years Miss Rees has been engaged in deputation work in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Canada a.nd the United States, and is at present on a three months’ tour of New Zealand, after which she will leave to spend a similar period in Australia. Miss Rees then proposes to go to England, and will leave once more to resume her work in Central'Africa. Miss Hazel Johnson, holder of a Sarah Anne Rhodes Fellowship with headquarters at Massey College, who lias been studying home science extensioii methods abroad under a. travelling fellowship from the Carnegie Corporation of New York,, has returned to Palmerston North. She arrived at Vancouver (Canada) in August of last year, and since that time has visited the United States, England, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, Belguim, Paris, and Australia. Miss Johnson proceeds to Wellington to-morrow to present her report to the Sarah Anne Rhodes Committee of Victoria University College. Miss M. Eogo, who has been relieving in Miss Johnson’s absence left Palmerston North vesteruay lor Dunedin, where she will take up a position under the Otago University home science extension work.
