PAHIATUA, May 31. When the members of the Pahiatua Methodist Church assembled to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs H. R. Ogg, who are about to leave for Wanganui, the function took the form of a social evening, and . between the items a series of games was organised by Rev. C. M. Roberts. Those who contributed to the programme were Mrs Ralph, junr., and Miss L. Ralph, of Mangamaire (vocal duet), Mrs H. A. Bick, Miss Blackman, and Mr J. W. Greaves (vocal solos), Mrs F. M. Ryan and Miss McQueen (elocutionary items). Mrs A. W. Carthew accompanied the singers. Words of praise were spoken by all who had worked with Mr anil Mrs Ogg. Mrs Roberts presented Vivienne Ogg with an amber necklace from the Sunday School classes and as a personal gift gave her a volume. M r Roberts called upon the guests tq. accept a mantel clock. An 18-mile road race was conducted by the Pahiatua Amateur Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon. There were seven starters and all finished the race. Results:—L Treader (7min), 51 min, 1; D. K. Pritchard (6min), 50min 2sec, 2; D. Cullen (7min), 51 min 30sec, 3; S. Bird (4min), 50niin, 4; It. Groube .(smm), 51min 30sec, 6; R. Millar (liiiin), 49min 15sec, G; G. Riilder (6min), 57min IGsec, 7. The fastest time was put up by It. Millar in 49min 15scc. The results of Saturday’s Rugby matches are as follow:—Senior: Hamua 8 beat Alfredlon 3, at Alfredton. Junior: Pahiatua 6 beat Nireaha 3; Marima 3 beat Hukanui nil; Ngaturi 25 beat Makuri 8; Eketahuna Old Boys 11 beat Ballance 3. The results of Saturday’s hockey matches are as follow :—Women : Kaitawa heat Hamua 3—nil, at Kaitawa; Nirealm heat United 4—2, at Nireaha. Men: Woodville heat Kiwi 14—2, at Woodville; Hastwells treat Hamua 4 nil.
