DEFENCE CONTRIBUTION.
SIMPLER SCHEME DESIRED. (British Official Wireless.) Received June 1, 10.35 a.m. RUGBY, May 31. Strong opposition to the national defence contribution, despite the modifications recently announced, continue to be expressed by official, commercial and industrial interests, and it is probable that during the debate to-mor-row the Chancellor will bo urged' to set up a departmental committee to work out a simpler scheme to be introduced as a separate measure at a later stage.
