In the second singles in the Davis Cup matches between Australia and America B. M. Grant (U.S.A.) beat J. H. Crawford 6—o, 6—2, 7 —5; J. D. Budge (U.S.A.) beat J. Bromwich, 6—2, 6—3, 5—7, 6—L In the first set Bromwich at times held his own hut the American’s severity of stroking could not he overcome. Tlie American led 3—o then 5—2 and, although Bromwich played infinitely better than against Grant, Budge took the final game by virtue of his greater experience. m tfie second set Bromwich again had successful spells, especially when at the net, hut the American outstendied him in the buckcourt duels. Sproule, said : “A good team defeated us and we take it in good part, as the Americans did last year. We will probably return next year . with most of the present team, and, if America takes the cup, we will try to take it from them. We will in all likelihood challenge in the American zone, since we would be m a better position. I believe we can account for England or Germany, and thus will probably face America for tlie cup. “I was particularly pleased with McGrath’s playing.
