GARRISON BAND.

Yesterday afternoon, under tho conductorship of Lieut. C. Pike, the Garrison Band rendered its final concert for the season in the rotunda, the Square. Enthused perhaps by its committee’s determination to secure new instruments so that it may compete in tho 1938 contest to be lield in this city, the band. Ava.s at full strength. There Avas also a marked' determination on the part of the members to get tho best from their AA’orn instruments. That they Avere successful Avas proved by the appreciation shown, by citizens avlio braved a rather unpleasant afternoon to bear its A grade band. The programme opened Avith the march “Washington Greys,” the band being precise and A-oluminous. “EA-entide,” an air varie, follOAved in organ-like stylo. The selection “Victory” called for delicate playing, the conclusion being marked Avith applause. Sousa’s stirring march, “Gladiator,” prompted further appreciation on the part of listeners. Bandsman H. Guthrie was the principal in .a euphonium solo, “Eclipse,” Avith band accompaniment. That this player never varies from top form AA-:as early evident, the rendition finishing in brilliant style to be Avell received. The concert concluded Avith the dainty value, “River of Pearls” and a contest march, “Allendale.”
