NEGOTIATIONS AT HOAIE. (British Official Wireless.) Received April 30, 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, April 29. The negotiations lor. the purpose of averting a strike of busmen in Central London at midnight to-morrow have been continued at the Alinistry of Labour! So far as is publicly known the Transport Union maintains its demand of a 74-hour day and the London Transport Board, while prepared to refer the issue to a public enquiry or arbitration, has not modified its position that the demand cannot be met out of its finances. However, it is still hoped a compromise may be found. The Aiines Department is also engaged in industrial conciliation with a view to bringing about an agreement between the Aline Workers’ Federation, the national delegate conierenou ot which is due to meet to-morrow to consider action on the recent ballot of the coalfields which, by 444,543 votes to 61,446. authorised a strike to secure recognition of flic federation in Nottinghamshire, and the owners of the Harwortli colliery, who refuse to negotiate with tho local union affiliated to tiio federation. A national strike on Alny 14 is mentioned in some quarters os a possibility, but the general leeling is more optimistic and expects a settlement. The Prime Munster (Alt' Stanley Baldwin) questioned in tho House of Commons on . the position, said he was satisfied that 1 everything possible was being done to find the solution to a very difficult problem.
