ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.

HOROWHENUA BOARD. The first meeting of the Horowlienua Electric Power Board lor the current iinancial year tools: place at Levin on luesday, when the ciiairman (Mr G. A. Monk) presided. There were also present Messrs W. E. Barber, T. G. Vincent, A. E. Hyde, A. iseitert, C. S. Keen well,!). Richards and F. W. V ickerman, together with Messrs J. A. Smith (engineer) and F. J. Ramsay (treasurer). In accordance with a recommendation from the linance committee the chairman proposed that the board grant £3O towards the King George V Memorial Fund, and this was adopted by the meeting. A letter was received from Wm. Wood and Co., requesting the extension of power lines on Oxiiku Road, U.piki, to serve their three farms. —- the ■chairman stated that, in view of the projected revenue from this source, the line proposed could well come under a guarantee. The board, he thought, would be justified in making a subsidy in view ot the excellence of the dairy , land concerned. The matter was referred to Mr Seifert and the ento interview the property owners on the question of the extent of consumption which could be guaranteed, authority being given to act. The application ot the same firm for the supply of power to Okuku Road was referred to tne engineer, the work to be proceeded with. A letter was received from the town clerk, Wellington, in reference to local bodies employees’ unions. It had been suggested by a number of local bodies that nobody enter into agreement with the representatives of any unions without consulting their parent associations, and it had further' been suggested that an advisory committee should be set up amongst the local bodies ot the Wellington provincial district. —The suggestions were agreed to by the board. . ’ . The engineer stated that the estimated cost of the extension would be £5Ol, aud that the revenue from four prospective customers was estimated at £7B. with the possibility of two more customers. The matter was referred to Mr Barber and tlie engineer for consideration, with power to aC The engineer reported for the period from March 17 to April 21, inter alia: During the period 24 service lines have been run, 10 existing singlephase services converted to three-

phase, 1 temporary service run, and 1 dismantled service re-erected. One additional outdoor sub-station has been erected, also one temporary substation, and two dismantled on account of alterations. Three new transformers have been put into service, and five changed for overhaul. On account of the increased loading in the northern area at Levin, an extension of the line lias been erected on Kawiu Road. An extension has been erected on Robinson Street. Foxton. and heavier cable run on that street and Lady’s Mile. A short extension has been made on Coley Street, Foxton. Alterations to lines due to road work have been made at the Levin-Foxton Road deviation, and at the .Otaki Railway deviation. During the period 29 new consumers and 24 extensions have been connected, making a total increase of 128 417 k.w.
