HUGE ECONOMIES IN COST. CAMBRIDGE, April 29. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple), who was accorded a civic reception at Cambridge, said ho intended to buy still more machinery for public works. Mr Semple also referred to the advance of aviation and said the construction of a chain of aerodromes was to bo carried out for internal communication and defence. The original cost of constructing an aerodrome was £175,000, which would have crippled New Zealand if tho scheme wero_ carried out. Instead of this, machinery had been employed to build the Nelson aerodrome at a cost of £35,000 in one and a half years. With scientific construction methods'the removal of earth had reduced in cost from 8s fid to a few pence a yard. Mr Semple received several deputations on district matters.
