ELECTRIC POWER.

MANAWATU-OROUA BOARD

A BUSY" MONTH. A busy month’s operations were reviewed by Mr W. A. Waters, engineer to the Manawatu-Oroua Electric Power Board, at the meeting of the board to-day. Sir Waters reported that the new automatic equipment was erected in Feilding ana the work permanently completed. The poles in the Feilding yard were bored and slotted, and to date 79 poles had been carted to the new line at Umutoi, where a gang of eight men were in camp proceeding with the erection of this line. “The new 3300 volt cable to replace that damaged in the hurricane has been run in at Longburn, and we are awaiting the end of the dairy season to strain it up and complete the repairs as, owing to the industries on this section, it is a most difficult line to cut off for repair work. New transformers were erected in Lockwood, Ashhurst, and Kairanga- Road, while a 11,000-volt, 50 k.v.a. transformer, which was damaged by lightning one evening, was replaced with a spare during the night in readiness for the morning milking. As the result of a 230-volt wire breaking one morning, the wire came down and killed a farmer’s dog. The low voltage, plus the grass, could not possibly circulate enough current to blow the" transformer fuses. Maintenance work has been carried out in No. 4 Line, Longburn, Kairanga, Main Drain Road, Cameron’s Line and Milson’s Line, etc.” “The following new consumers were given a supply during the month:— Lighting and heating, 14; ranges 11; water heaters, 13; motors for milking, 7; industrial motors, 3; other motors, 9; electric welders, 1; additions to existing installations, 16; total, 74.” INCREASED SALES. Mr K. YY. Egl in ton (managingsecretary), in his financial statement, reported that the balance in the power fund account was £4211 15s lid, and in the loan account 6s 2d. Collections in March for installations and sales had amounted to £323 10s the amount outstanding was £3817 9s 2d. Sales of current for the eleven months of the 1936-37 period had totalled £77,842 19s. as compared with £73,024 6s 3d in 1935-36, an increase of £4BIB 12s 9d.
