HOCKEY. (Front Our Own Correspondent.) HAIX’OMBE, April 12. The Halcombc Ladies’ Hockey Club held its first practice for the season, when an excellent muster of players augured well for the coming season. If the members continue to display this initial enthusiasm there is little doubt that, villi coaching, they should mould themselves into a team capable of upholding' the highest; traditions of Haleomhe's “crack” teams of the past. The dub held the first of itrs series of flag 500 evening's in the Jubilee Hall. There were between 30 and 40 players present and, after a keen contest, the winners proved to he Messrs T. C'laphain, G. Nation, A. Lord, and R. llowe. The prize for the travelling flag was won by Mr E. .Morris. An excellent supper concluded a pleasant evening’s entertainment. JUBILEE EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the jubilee executive was held iti the school on Saturday evening to deal with various matters in connection with the recent i-ucces“ful jubilee. As well as being a tremendous success from the social standpoint, the jubilee was equally successful financially. 'Though the accounts art* not yet finalised it seems reasonably certain that there will be a credit balance in the vicinity of £ISC. This, said the chairman (Mr E. \Y. Cowdrey), was a wonderful achievement and reflected great credit on all concerned. Mr AV. .McLennan spoke in similar vein, eulogising the work of Mr Cowdrey anti the secretary (Miss Violet Wilson). The chairman stated that ns a result of the large influx of visitors he had been able to ascertain that certain names Itad been omitted from the school roll of honour and from the war memorial monument. The meeting decided that the missing names he added at the expense of the jubilee funds. The manager of the Eeilding branch of the Bank of New Zealand (.Mr Goldsmith) was appointed auditor of the jubilee accounts. After a lengthy disen-vion. the executive decided to hold a social wind-up dance in the Jubilee Hall on April 16. The main purpose of this function will he to suitably recognise the unstinted services rendered to 11 to jubilee celebrations affairs by the chairman and secretary. It will also be a ecm-

Arts J. Bush, of Tokorangi. lelt last week to spend a fetv weeks in the South Island, where she will also attend the Thempson-Gudsell wedding. Miss Aileen Managh is at present spending a holiday in Australia. Miss Managh. accompanied hy a cousin, flew from Sydney to Melbourne a few days ago.
