RETIREMENTS AND PROMOTIONS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 10. Sir John Ma.ffey has expressed a desire to retire from the office of permanent Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, with effect from July 1 next. The Secretary of State for the Colonics (Mir W. Ormsby-Gore), with the consent of the Prime Minister (Mr Stanley Baldwin), has appointed Sir Cosmo* Parkinson, an assistant Undersecretary of State, to be permanent Under-Secretary in succession to Sir John.

Sir Henry Monckmason Moore, at present Governor and Commauder-in-Cliief of Sierra Leone, has been appointed an assistant Under-Secretary in succession to Sir Cosmo Parkinson, and is to assume duty at the Colonial Office at the beginning of September. It is also announced that Sir Percy Ezechiel, third Crown Agent for the Colonies, will retire from the service with effect from January 1, 1938, and Mr Ormsby-Gore ha.s appointed Mr J. E. W. Flood, an assistant Secretary in the Colonial Office, to succeed him.
