EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” APRIL 12, 1907. The whalers at Tvaikoura were buying a muzzle-loading bomb gun for killing whales, that means being tho latest devised. It had been stated that the rate por £IOOO for charitable aid in the Wanganui district was 10s, in Wellington 12s, and in this district 4s Bcl. Wild cattle were being taken from the bush at To Kapua, near Taihape. The Palmerston North bowling greens were to be closed to play as from the end of tbo month. Discoveries bad been mndo of extensive quantities of arms and ammunition being smuggled out of Britain for tbo Russian revolutionaries.
