WOMEN’S WORLD

AT AWAPUNI. PERFECT AUTUMN WEATHER. FROCKJNG OF THE LADIES. Tlio golden sunshine of a perfect autumn day induced many womenfolk to attend tho Manawatu raets at Awapuni, yesterday, and the outing was a very pleasurable one. Tho attractive surroundings also contributed to tho enjoyment, cool green lawns providing a soft carpet for leisurely feet, and garden beds of autumn flowers lending a bright note of colour. “A day happily spent” was the opinion expressed by the large number of feminine patrons when, the last race over, they dispersed homeward bound. The influence of the Autumn Fashion Lady, with the gay whims with which she is intriguing us this year, was evident and interesting to observe. On the whole, navy blue, black, and brown —tho colours favoured at this time of the year—were most noticeable, but there were brighter tones in evidence as well. Tho new hats, in high-crowned and quaint' shapes, and becoming littlo toques, crowned many a head, and the gay quills and feathers adorning them wore most effective. They were in velour and felt, and cellophane straws, one smart style being of shiny black glass. Tailored costumes were first favourites, worn with fur stoles and carefully chosen accessories, and they had an air of being “just right” for the occasion. Smart little suits and ensembles expressing the individuality of the wearers made their appearance, slit skirts, three-quarter length and swing-back coats being still in favour. Mrs C. Louisson, wife of the president of the Manawatu Racing Club, was a charming hostess and a distinctive figure on the lawn. Her model frock was of a fuchsia shade with a shoulder spray of everlasting daisies, and with it she wore a black French toque with a black and white fan frill, silver foxes, and smart accessories.

Mr and Mrs Louisson entertained over thirty guests at luncheon, and over fifty at afternoon tea. Gerberas and maidenhair fern were artistically arranged on tho tables. . FASHION JOTTINGS. I The flared or circular skirt, the fitted waistline, and the combining of these two styles in redingotes is a feature of early winter models. For evening there are tailored velvet redingotes over simple shirt waist frocks of lame. Princess coats and suits are outstanding in autumn and winter collections in far or in materials. Suits are equally popular. j A sailor collar of fur on coats and suits is a new note. Folds across the top of the shoulder give added fullness to the sleeves.
