SIT-DOWN STRIKES.
AGAINST PUBLIC OPINION. FEDERATION’S ATTITUDE. WASHINGTON, March 29. The president of the American Federation of Labour, Mr William Green, has issued a statement declaring that sit-down strikes are illegal and must be disavowed by thinking men and women of Labour.
“Public opinion Ts against sitdown strikes,” he said. “Labour must be supported by public opinion. Sitdown strikes, despite temporary advantages, finally will injure permanently the Labour movement.” Mr Green predicted that if the strikes continued State and Federal laws would he passed which would compel the incorporation of the unions and force arbitration in disputes, which would be a severe blow to Labour.
