CANTERBURY IN LEAD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 28. AA'ith boxing, rowing, and lour of the athletic events decided in the 83rd annual tournament ol constituent colleges of New Zealand, Canterbury leads tor the tournament shield with Hi points, Victoria is next with 10-i points, Otago 34 points and Auckland 8 points. Canterbury won the boxing shield with three points, one ahead ol Auckland. A CLOSE CONTEST. Per Press Association. GHIUSTCH UIfCH, March 29. The New Zealand University tournament continued in Christchurch today. Canterbury University, with a useful margin in hand from the first dav, maintained its position at the head of the table of tournament shield points and is practically assured of winning the shield. The result will depend uii the lawn tennis finals, to bo played to-morrow, in which Canterbury lias" a commanding position. Canterbury finished the day with 20 points, Otago 184, Victoria 102 and Auckland 8. Otago offered a strong challenge to Canterbury in to-day's events, winning the athletic shield with 23 points Lo Canterbury’s 19. and the swimming shield with seven points to Canterburv’s two. V ictoria College was unbeaten in the basketball, scoring the possible, with Auckland in second place. In the shooting also Victoria College was successful, with Canterbury second.
