SHEEP’S FLEECE.
CAN BE PEELED OFF. RUSSIAN EXPERIMENTS. Received March 29. 2.25 p.m. LONDON, March 28. The Times says: Large scale experiments in Russia have demonstrated that sheep’s fleeces can be peeled ofl by pulling gently after loosening the roots of the wool by feeding and injecting drugs. The subjects of experiments in Moscow, the Crimea. Caucasus, and the Ukraine were 500 fine-woolled sheep of the Merino and Rambouillet breed. The drug thallium was employed to loosen the ileece, almost a complete moult being effected in a fortnight, but the sheep can be plucked in from seven to 10 minutes at the stage preceding the final moult.
