SYDNEY CUP.
WON BY MESTORAVON. WOTAN RUN'S LAST. SYDNEY, .March 29. The second day of the A.J.C. autumn meeting was held at Rnndwick to-day in fine weather and before an excellent attendance. 'file Doncaster runner-up received a measure of compensation for Saturday’s defeat by winning the La Pcrouse Handicap with ease. Mestoravon, who came from an obscure country performer to equal favourite for tho Sydney Cup in three weeks, fully justified the confidence reposed in him by running tho two miles in three-quarters of a second better than the Rand w ick record, and within a quarter of a second of Wotan’s Australian record. In point of numbers and quality the cup field wan tho poorest contesting that event for the past twenty yean?. Wotan was strongly supported, but was Inst to finish.
