THE SYDNEY CUP.
MESTORAVON’S DISPLAY. Received March 30, 10.20 a.m. SYDNEY, March 30. Commenting on the Sydney Cup race yesterday, the Sydney Morning Herald says that, purchased five years ago as a "yearling with his dam and. two others, half-relations, for 75 guineas for the lot, Mestoravon completed his meteoric rise to turf fame by winning the Sydney Cup race in record time. Mestoravon ran the race of a stayer in a sustained strong run in the straight. Sir Ross, who was not well placed early, finished strongly. He did well to get'within a length of the winner. Oro ran one of his kindest races for some time, and his third was an excellent performance on the part of the seven-year-okl stallion. Mananui was a disappointment and did not gallop kindly. He finished sixth.
Wotan saw all that was going on from start to finish. He only plugged along for two miles, and finished last.
The report of the race appears on page 12.
