OBITUARY

MR D. D. CAMERON. One of the oldest settlers in Kaiwarra, Mr Donald Douglas Cameron, died on Wednesday at the age of 80 years. Mr Cameron, who was horn at Waiwetu, in the Hutt Valley, was the eldest son of the late Mr Alexander Cameron, a pioneer settler of the Wellington district, who arrived in New Zealand in the ship Blenheim in 1840. Mr Cameron received his education at Mowbray’s School (now the Thorndon Normal School) and at the Wellington Grammar School (now Wellington College), and began work in the merchant’s business of Edward Pearce in Willis Street, where he remained until the amalgamation of that business with Levin and Co. He was then for about 88 years continuously employed with the Wellington Meat Export Company. Since his retirement a. few years ago he had lived at his old home in Kaiwarra. In his younger days he took a keen interest in military matters, and was for many years captain of the Kaiwarra Rifle Volunteers. He took an interest in education, and was for a period chairman of the Kaiwarra School Committee. Mr Cameron married Miss Annie Storey, the eldest daughter of the late Mr Lewis Storey, who survives him. He is survived also hv five children, Miss Mary Cameron. Hawke’s Bay, and Messrs John 1). Cameron, Ronald Cameron, George Cameron, and Percival Cameron, allot' Wellington. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs Cameron, Dunedin, Misses Jessie and Isabella Cameron, Kaiwarra, and one brother, Mr .John Cameron, Wellington.
