The Minister of Railways (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) will arrive in Palmerston North early on Saturday evening and stay overnight at this centre, returning to Welli’»jton at 4p.m. on Sunday.

Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage (Prime Minister) and the Minister or Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong) received a number of deputations at Dunedin yesterday, and were the guests of the Rotary Club at luncheon. They left in the afternoon for Invercargill, and will return north on Thursday.

Air W. H. Love, who has been on the local staff of the State Forest Service for the pad two years, has been appointed to the aerodromes branch of the Public Works Department at Wellington, and takes up his new duties on March 1. Air Love’s successor is Air C. S. Panting, of the Lands and Surveys Department, Auckland.

Air J. K. Hornblow, who is a patient in the Palmerston North Hospital is stated by the Hospital authorities to he quite comtortahle although lie is still seriously ill.. At a meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board (of which Air Hornblow is a member), this week, the chairman (Air G. A. Monk) referred to Air Hornblow’s indisposition and on his motion it was decided that a letter be sent to the absent member expressing a wish for his speedy return to health. Mr A. C. Morton, who has been appointed as the Alassey College representative in succession to the principal (Professor G. S. Peren), was cordially welcomed back at the meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association yesterday. He was formerly a member of the committee in a private capacity. Air B. C. Eglinton, a member of the committee, was also welcomed back after his recent illness.

Mr S- V. Bargh, who has been appointed postmaster at Petone, joined the service of the Post and Telegraph Department at Dannevirke in 1904. After being there for about eight years he went to Wellington, where he was stationed for two and a-half years. He then returned to Dannevirke for two years and from there went to Hawera for seven and a-half years. He was postmaster at Ormondville for six and a-half years and after that went to Palmerston as postmaster, where he had been since 1932 until he was transferred to Petone.

The Alinister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong) announced yesterday that Air E. J. Dash, president of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, had been elected by a substantial majority of trades unions as workers’ representative at the annual meeting of the International Labour Conference at Geneva. Air Dash* lias been a member of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants (now known as the New Zealand Union of Railwaymen) for over 33 years, and has held all offices in the Timaru branch. He was first elected to attend the biennial conference of the A.S.R.S. 26 years ago. He was an executive councillor for the record period of 12 years, and baa been president of the society for four years and a-half, being re-elected once unopposed. For 24 years Mr Dasli sat as maintenance departmental representative on the Railways Appeal Board, and for 14 years has been a member of the Railways Superannuation Board.
