LAWN TENNIS

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. MAN AG EMENT COMMITTEE. Tile management committee of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association met last evening, Mr J. T. McDonald presiding. There were also present Messrs H. N. Watson, D. I. Robertson, L. Reichenbach, C. C. Yates, and R. Haddon (secretary). Congratulations were extended, in a letter from the Hawke’s Bay Association, on the Manawatu team’s winning of the Christie Cup, and congratulations were also expressed on the conduct of every member of the team, both on and off the courts. The visit had been thoroughly enjoyed by members of the Hawke’s Bay team, and they looked forward to many more matches between the two associations. —The secretary advised that he had replied stating that the Manawatu players had also enjoyed the match, and congratulating the Hawke’s Bay association on their efficient control of it. The Whakarongo Tennis Club sought permission to play matches with the Aokautere, Ashhurst and Taonui clubs (unaffiliated clubs), and the secretary said he had replied granting permission. The chairman reported that the receipts from the recent tournament, not counting money to be obtained from the sale of balls, had amounted to £24 ss. Mr Robertson (treasurer) said that the actual profit would be in the vicinity of £7. A projected visit to the Wairarapa Association was briefly discussed and it was left to the chairman to arrange the visit when a date was suggested by the Wairarapa body. On the motion of the chairman it was decided not to hold a secondary school tournament this year. He explained that the schools were reopening a month later, Easter would fall early, and there was also the thought of the infantile paralysis which would be in the minds of many parents. The association did not in any way wish to cease holding the tournament, hut under the circumstances it would be wiser not to hold it this season.

It was decided to forward letters of thanks to those persons who had lent their cars for transporting the team to go to Napier for the Christie Cup match.

The chairman reported that the response from the clubs to the offer for coaching for juniors had been good. The nominations included four from the Palmerston North Tennis Club, two from the Manawatu Club, two from Northern and two from West End.
