DEFENCE PLAN
CONSIDERATION BY COMMONS. OPPORTUNITY FOR DEBATE. THE DOMINIONS’ POSITION. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Received February 23, 11.15 a.m. RUGBY, Feb. 22. The opportunity for a further discussion in the House of Commons on the Government’s proposals to raise defence loans will occur this evening, when tlie report stage of the money resolution win be taken. However, tlie main debate will probably take piaoo on Lhursday when tlie second reacting of the lull itself will be debated. The principal Government speakers on the latter occasion will be the Chancellor of the Exchequer vMr Neville Chamberlain) and the Home Secretary (Sir John Simon). It is expected that Mr Lloyd George will speak during the course of tlie debate. The Prime Minister (Mr Baldwin) was questioned in the House on Sir Samuel Hoare’s speech at Bradford on February 5 regarding the Dominions co-operation in Imperial delence. Mr Baldwin said: “The First Lord of the Admiralty made, no new statement of policy. While explaining that the chief burden of tlie delence expenditure falls on Britain, the First Lord once again declared it to be a great mistake to impose some rigid plan on the other members of the Emnire. Similarly, as to economic questions, ho made it clear that any agreement that had been, or might be reached, must result from a common outlook and a spontaneous desire for co-operation.
