WELLINGTON NOMINATIONS.
Very substantial increases in prize-money have been allocated for the Wellington Racing Club's autumn meeting at Trcnthain on March 11 and 13, and the gathering will be a big attraction to the host class horses in this district. For the mile Thompson Handicap this year, the stake is £750, the Autumn Handicap (11 furlongs) run on the second day having a prize of £6OO. The two sprints, the Railway and Suburban Handicaps are worth £450, while on the second day the Hutt Handicap (1 mile, £400) is also an open event. The Champion Hack Cup of £SOO (including a £IOO gold cup) will draw the best class hacks throughout the Dominion and, over a testing distance of 11 furlongs, should again provide a very interesting contest. No race on the programme carries a stake of less than £3OO, and all classes of homes are catered for. A reminder is given Manawatu owners and trainers that nominations for all events and forfeits for the New Zealand St. Legcr Stakes and North Island Challenge Stakes close with the secretary, Miss D. E. Bray, Woodward Street, Wellington, at 5 p.m. to-morrow j Wednesday). TROTTING AT PALMERSTON NORTH. The matinee meeting to be staged by the Manawatu Trotting Club on the training track at Fitzroy Street, Palmerston North, on Saturday next, provides an excellent opportunity for stepping out horses engaged on the coming Manawatu-West Coast circuit under racing conditions. Very attractive trophies have been donated by trotting enthusiasts in the district for the four
events on the programme. Entries which are free close with the secretary (Mr A. 11. Manaon, Palmerston North) at 8 o clock to-night and the handicaps will bo declared to-morrow.
