FEILDING EWE FAIR.

AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report on last week’s Feilding ewe fair: —Taken all through the quality of our entry was good and comprised the annual drafts from most of the lpading farmers in the district. Our offering of twotootha was exceptionally heavy, and contained many lines of outstanding sheep. Mr J. D. Hooking topped the market in twotooths, his pens making £2 14s and £3 Is. In the aged class we had comparatively few lots of broken-mouth sheep. At the start of the sale for two-tooths, biddjng was inclined to drag, the_ report showing a slight easing in wool prices at the Wellington salo no doubt shaking the_ confidence of the buyers. Competition brightened up as the sale proceeded, and we quitted under the hammer the whole of our yarding in this section, with the exception of one small pen of 37. In .the aged section bidding waa uneven and on the whole prices realised wore disappointing and showed a considerable fall on sales recently made in the paddock. Vendors, however, were out to quit, and here again we made practically a total clearance. Our main sales wero as follow, last year’s prices being given in parentheses:—2-th ewes: On account Dalrymple Bros., £2 5s 6d, 36e 6d (£2, 39s 6d); G. F. Tho N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on the Feilding ewo fair: —The total entry was between 40.000 and 50,000, which is perhaps a record. The sale aroused tremendous interest, and in addition to the strong buying done by local graziers buyers wero in attendance from neighbouring provinces and from the King Country and Waikato. Prior to the sale, it was difficult to forecast tho likely trend of values, although it was anticipated that young ewes would maintain and probably show an improvement. Anticipations did not materialise, except - with several lines of top two-tooths, and the general range of values for medium to good sheep of this class showed a decline on recent sales and in many eases passings wore noticeable. An over-supply on the day may have been tho factor mainly responsible for this. In the aged ewe section the entry was approximately . 38,000, and practically a complete clearance was effected. The salo opened on a level several shillings below recent sales, but gradually improved, and, although on the aggregate a general decline has to he reported, all lines of genuine annual draft age marked lines wore keenly competed for.
