LUXURY IN DEMAND.
FUR AND DIAMOND SALES. Furs and diamonds are in great demand, says a London message of recent date. Buyers from all over the world hid eagerly at the London fur sales, prices being 10 to 15 per cent higher than a year ago, and the best since the depression. Diamonds were in sucli demand that the Diamond Trading Company, which handles most of the output from South Africa, sells its gems immediately they arrive. Sales in 1937 are expected to rise more than 50 per cent compared with lasi, .year, and to exceed the predepression average of £12,000,000. The valuation placed on the de Beers properities is £34,000,000 compared with £7,000,000 in the depth of the depression.
