SERVICE TO COMMUNITY.
TRIBUTES TO MR AND MRS VELVIN. Tributes to the services rendered by Mr and Mrs J. W. Velvin in connection ivith musical activities in Hawera over a number of years were recognised at a function held under the auspices of the Hawera Scottish Society, Hawera Male Choir and Hawera Competitions Society when they were farewelled on the eve of their departure to take up their residence in Palmerston North. “For many years Mr Velvin has been an executive member of this society, while Mrs Velvin, through her organising ability on the women’s committees, has been a tower of strength,” stated the chief of the Hawera Scottish Society (Mr D. S. Wards). Further references to the invaluable work of Mr and Mrs Velvin in many directions in the community were made by Messrs G. H. Buckeridge, W. G. Simpson. D. G. Smart, D. McCormick, J. E. Campbell (Mayor, of Hawera), J. Nairn, F. W. Horner and H. L. Chadwick. Mr and Mrs Velvin take up their residence in Palmerston North this week.
