MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
MISCELLANEOUS CASES. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided over the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North to-day. Reginald Merton Semb, ot Christchurch, was charged that, being a person excluded under the Gaming Act regulations, he trespassed on the Awapuni racecourse when it was being used for a race meeting on Decern bci 29. The Magistrate said that, according to an explanatory letter defendant had forwarded, he had gone on to the course to see a detective. The latter said this was contrary to fact. Defendant was fined £5, with 10s costs. Charged with obtaining over-pay-ments of £2 17s 6d in sustenance through misleading an official engaged in the administration of the Employment Promotion Act, Alan Royston Parker was fined that amount, with 22s costs. Stated to be £lls 10s in arrears on a maintenance order, Michael Lynch, a labourer, of Dannevirko, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, tho warrant to be suspended as long as he complied with tho correct order. Orders against Bernard Bardebes, labourer, of Arapuni, in favour of Iris wifo and child were increased to 25s and 15s respectievly. Stephen James Havill was ordered to pay 30s weekly for the maintenance of his wife and 30s weekly for his threo children, while in full employment, and sustenance rates when not so. Complaints alleging arrears of £lO7 15s 9d and £9B 5s respectively on tho two orders were meanwhile adjourned. Sebastian Hulena, labourer, of Manga whata, was ordered to pay 5s weekly off arrears of £2O on a maintenance order for liis child.
