BOXING IN AMERICA

STEELE BEATS RISKO. NEAV YORK. Feb. 20. The boxer Freddie Steele retained his title by winning the decision over “Babe” Risko in an unexciting fifteenround bout before a. small crowd at Madison Square Garden. The judges and referee came to a unanimous decision, giving Steele eleven rounds and Risko tour. The receipts were 15,686 dollars. Risko appeared extremely slow in comparison with liis rival. Instead of employing the reckless abandon characteristic of him, Risko constantly retreated before Steele, and there were only infrequent flurries. Thus Steele was unquestionably the winner, since he did most of the fighting and all the boxing. Steele’s best round was the sixth, in which he hurled Risko to the ropes and rocked him with hooks to the face and body. The round, however, was awarded to the challenger because Steele delivered a low blovy. Steele caught Risko off his balance in the fourteenth round and sent him to the canvas for a fraction of a second. BRADDOCK v. LOUIS. CHICAGO, Feb. 20. James Braddock and Joe Louis have signed a contract, under which Braddock will receive 50 per cent, of the receipts of 500,000 dollars guarantee, plus half the cinema and radio rights.
