THE ROTORUA TOURNAMENT. ROBERTSON WINS FINAL(Bv Telegraph—Special to Standard.) ROTORUA, Feb. 13. In the semi-finals of the Rotorua bowling tournament yesterday. Robertson (Oneiiuiiga) beat De Launay (Carlton) and Fowkes (Rotorua) boat Gardiner (Oiahuhu). The final between Robertson and Fowkes resulted in a splendid exhibition of bowling, in which the play was mainly confined to drawing shots. Fowkes secured the lead, and at the sixth head was nine to his opponent's six. The ninth head' gave Fowkes a lead of three, and on the 12tli lie had thirteen and his opponent nine. On the 14th both teams were level. On the 15tli Fowkes was one up on his opponent, but on the 16th they were allsquare with 14 points. On the 17th Fowkes was three down when he played his last shot, but the bowl was delivered with such good judgment that he drew alongside the jack, placing Ins team one up on Robertson. On the 18th head Fowkes was two up on the head, but Robertson, with a beautifully played bowl, trailed the jack and scored two, making the score Robertson 16. Fowkes 15. ■ The 19th was in favour of Robertson who had the advantage of three shots. Fowkes with his last howl, “burnt the head. Resuming play on the Util Robertson scored two, but on the -Utn Fowkes obtained one, the scores being Robertson 17, Fowkes 16. On the last head Fowkes s lead drew a nice shot neart he jack, which was beaten by one drawn by Robertson s lead. The head was not disturbed by the players on both sides, most of the bowls being a couple of yards past the jack. Fowkes attempted to drive with his last bowl, hut failed to Ridge the green accurately, Robertson winning the match by two points. It was a splendidly fouglit-out game, which was in doubt up to the last head. Robertson went through the tournament without losing a game fowkes is to be complimented on the splendid fight made by his team. The teams were as follow: Onehunga.
