Mrs S. Cooper, of Palmerston North, is visiting Auckland. Mrs D. Griffiths, of Palmerston North, is viisting Auckland. Miss Jean Batten is spending a holiday at Maketu thermal district.

Miss J. S. McLeod, of Palmerston North, has returned north after visiting Invercargill as the guest of Mrs J. K. Clark.

Mrs C. Burre, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs Galpin, Pongakawa, Te Puke.

Mr and Mrs C. F. A. Waters left Palmerston North to-day on a holiday visit to the South Island.

Mrs C. Woskett, accompanied by her son, Kenneth, is enjoying a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs G. Cole, of Auckland.

Among the passengers arriving at Wellington from England by the It.M.S. Tainui on Tuesday were Mr and Mrs Leonard Portch, who returned to the Dominion after an eight months’ holiday in the British Isles. They are at present the guests of Mrs Portch’s parents, Mr and Mrs J. Dawson, “Hazelmere,” Colyton. Miss Bingham, of the staff of the Dannevirke High School, who sails for Sydney next week on a trip abroad, left Dannevirke for Wellington yesterday. She has been granted leave of absence by' the Board of Governors. A member of the National Council of Women at Southport, England, recently made a gift of 24 cottages as homes for single women, aged more than 60 years, who are in needy circumstances.

The New Zealand Nurses’ Memorial Fund benefited to the extent of £55 12s as a result of the .Nurses’ Day field in Oamaru recently. This was due mainly to the work of Mr Neil Colquhoun and the matron and nurses of tlie Oamaru Hospital. The fund is also to benefit under the will of Airs Susan Spence', of Napier, who bequeathed one-fourth share of her estate to it.

Visitors who have arrived by ’plane to attend the wedding of Aiiss Myrtle Calty to All- B. G. Gane, which takes piace on Saturday, include Mr and Airs F. W. Gane, Air B. G. Gane, Aiiss Betty Gane (Blenheim), Air L. Stannard "(Wellington) and Mr A. C. Conll (Blenheim). Aiiss D. Brammall, Air L. Gane and Air AV. Gane will arrive by the Alarlborough Club’s Waco machine to-morrow. Other guests arriving on Saturday include Air and Mrs W. Girling, Alisses Girling, Alaster Al. Girling, Mrs E. S.
