EXTRAGTS FROM "STANDARD.” DECEMBER 10. 1906. New abattoirs at Awapuni had been declared open by the Mayor (Mr At Cohen), at the request of Air R. S. Abraham, chairman of directors of the company. The sum of £47 bad been collected in the previous day toward the purchase price of the All Saints’ Children’s Home. The Pohangina County Council was cxpcricning 1 rouble with erosion at Diggers’ Creek and had decided to combat it with the erection of a groyne. A total of 140 varieties of potatoes had beon planted at Tauranga for experimental purposes. The construction of a new battleship, of the Dreadnought type, had been commenced at Portsmouth. The ship was to bo called the Bellcphcron.
